staff07.jpgStephen Boechler (Ph.D.) - Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher Steve is a certifed Iyengar yoga teacher and has been studying yoga at the JNS Yoga Studio since 1995. He has attended many workshops taught by the leading Iyengar teachers in Canada. He understands the importance of bringing balance to the mind and the body. "Yoga creates the opportunity to bring stillness and calm to the mind and awareness to the body. It is exciting to watch students discover the benefits of Iyengar Yoga".

staff09.jpgGary Day (M.A., B.Mus.) is a certified Iyengar yoga teacher. He has been studying yoga in the Iyengar tradition with Jo-Ann Sutherland for a number of years, having made a transition from t'ai chi ch'uan in the 1990s.
A classically-trained singer by trade, Gary finds himself daily trapped at a desk, and often quips, "if you leave it in a chair all day it will grow." The ergonomics of work, particularly of desk work, is a concern for him insofar as it is a misnomer -- unless we work toward the health and freedom our own bodies, health problems will inevitably result, even if we sit at the most ergonomic desk in the world! Iyengar yoga can correct, or at the very least ameliorate, the effects of years of non-use, abuse, and misuse of the body. Gary judges that the gift of listening to the body (as one might to a great singer), and being aware of its tiniest inner nuance and need, is one of the greatest gifts of yoga. "The breath" (and thus Pranayama), so important to his art, strongly informs Gary's personal yoga practice.

YOGAs5_1_1.jpgSandie Irvine (B.F.A. Hons) A student of Yoga, the Iyengar way, since 1999. As an artist, entrepeneur, and family woman, Yoga has brought balance and light into her full life. Sandie brings to her Classes elements of creativity, patience, compassion, and discovery of the self through Yoga's disciplines of meditation, asana, and pranayama. She believes a holistic approach to Yoga allows space for All to challenge body, mind, and spirit at every level.
"Through my yoga practise & teaching, I am challenged, frequently humbled, ever grateful" Patricia Sullivan, Yogini & Sculptor.

christine_yoga_2.jpgChristine Bateman (B.A, B.Ed) Christine moved from Charlottetown, PEI to Saskatoon unexpectedly in 2005. Already a practising yoga student, she soon found a home at JNS. Impressed and inspired by the amount of training and the professionalism displayed in the Iyengar approach, she decided then and there that she had to be a part of this wonderful tradition. Christine started her teacher's training with Jo-Ann Sutherland in 2006 and was pregnant with her second child by the time she finished. “The impact yoga (Iyengar in particular) has had on my life is indescribable.” In fact she has left her job as a school teacher to pursue yoga full-time, in the hopes of one day owning her own studio. “How many people can wake up every morning and say “I do what I love?” Well, I guess I'm one of the lucky ones...”

jiyeun_1.jpgJiyeun Kim (B.H.E) Jiyeun  began practicing yoga in South Korea in 1999. After completing both the Iyengar yoga teacher training and her apprenticeship with Jo-Ann Sutherland in Saskatoon, she started teaching yoga at the JNS yoga studio in 2007.  Jiyeun has practiced Bikram, Ashtanga, Power, and Vinyasa yoga under the Hatha yoga tradition in Korea but she feels that Iyengar yoga has provided a strong foundation for her yoga practice. She is grateful for the opportunity to teach yoga to others and thinks a teacher is also a student who keeps learning with humbleness and passion.

Evelyn studies regularly with Senior Canadian Iyengar Yoga Teachers. Evelyn discovered that regular practice of yoga asana improved her strength, flexibility, stamina, postural alignment and concentration and brought about a deep sense of inner peace, strength and contentment in her everyday life. Evelyn taught for many years in Spruce Grove Alberta.  In 2007, after retiring from her career in Education she moved back to her home city of Saskatoon. Evelyn began teaching at JNS Yoga Studio in 2008.  Evelyn says she is grateful to be able to continue her studies at JNS and to share her knowledge and experience with her students.  The beauty and joy of Iyengar yoga is that there is always a new level of learning.

Debbie_in_Astavakrasana.jpgDebbie Nordstrom< (B.Sc) has been practising yoga  at JNS Yoga Studio since 2004.  Debbie believes that if you enjoy something then you will want to keep doing it and she brings this principle into the  teaching of her yoga classes. Body and breath awareness are the key components that Debbie values about the discipline of Iyengar yoga.  A long time student  of Traditional Shotokan Karate, she enjoys the precise movements, attention to detail and in-depth exploration of both arts (yoga and karate).  After a good practice she loves the quiet peace that yoga brings.
